ehhh….

This cartoon implies that technology in the classroom negatively impacts academics. Of course I disagree, but I put this up because it is an issue we may have to deal with…

What do you think?

As I was browsing teacher blogs I came across The Cool Cat Teacher who discusses “new tools” that can be used in the classroom and provides convincing arguments on sometimes controversial subjects (such as certain use of the Internet in schools). On one of the blogs I found her cartoon (uploaded in my “box widget”) and thought it raised an issue that we may face in trying to use some Internet tools in the classroom. Check it out! My question is should schools allow such social networking sites such as Myspace and YouTube to be used in the classroom for educational purposes given the “risks” involved. What would some parents and administrators who see such sites scrutinized in the media think about this? Personally, I see no problem with it, but I am also younger and may have a biased opinion of these sites. What do you think?

PS) In one of my classes last semester I was taught an interesting example of how a Myspace site can be used in an English class: The students create Myspace pages for a literary character of the work the class is studying. In the “Interest” and “About Me” sections they do a sort of a character analysis. I thought that would be pretty cool!

Cool Blogging Site

I came across this site while seaching around for teacher blogs and thought it was really cool:
Teacher Lingo

It is a blogging community especially for teachers and it’s FREE to join! It even has a search for specific subject areas and/or grade level! I am sure creating a blogging community with other teachers around the world would be cool and beneficial, so I thought I would share!

See everyone in class soon!

First Impressions

Hey ENGL 3241!!! Welcome to my blog!

I am so excited to learn how to use tech. and dig. media in the classroom this semester! I think this class will be insightful and a lot of fun! Although I feel that I am pretty knowledgeable about all the Internet has to offer, I am really interested to see how to apply it in the classroom! Ummm….?!? I have used Xanga and LiveJournal in the past, but this site seems to be more professional and user friendly if you will. I like it!

Going to go check out some teacher blogs….

Have a good weekend
